The village of Holmes Chapel is set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside and is regarded as one of the most pleasant places to live within the UK. Close to junction 18 of the M6 motorway, Holmes Chapel has good road links to both the North and South of the country. At the heart of the village is the historic church of St. Luke, this is one of only three buildings that survived a great fire in July 1753, evidence of scorching can still been seen today on the lime trees within the church yard. Since then the village has rebuilt and expanded considerably, large housing estates have appeared since the late 1960's and led to the population being increased. 	Jodrell Bank Observatory, School of Physics & Astronomy, The University of Manchester, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 9DL - Tel: 01477 571321.
