in Hertford! Hertford is a charming, rapidly expanding
town with a rich heritage, many fine, old buildings and the remains
of Hertford Castle.The
world's oldest Quaker Meeting House founded by George Fox in
1669 is still intact to this day. In 1553 Edward VI founded Christ's
Hospital School known as Blue Coat School and Hertford was its
home for 300 years. With its busy Saturday market, Hertford has
grown from a fortified burgh at the time of the Norman Invasion
to a modern prosperous town. The River Lee runs through Hertford
and is joined by three other rivers, the River Mimram, the River
Beane and the River Rib. The Lee Navigation Canal runs south
from Hertford and barges can be hired for pleasure use. Hertford
is 2 miles west of Ware, 3 miles east
of Welwyn Garden and 7 miles
south of Stevenage. |
