In 1553 Edward VI founded Christ's Hospital School known as Blue
Coat School and Hertford was its home for 300 years. The Lee
Navigation Canal runs south from Hertford and barges can be hired
for pleasure use. Hertford is 2 miles west of Ware,
3 miles east of Welwyn Garden
and 7 miles south of Stevenage.
