Helmsley is one of the most attractive
English villages. It has a square with pubs, restaurants and
shops of the highest quality. Helmsley castle and its beautiful
five acre Walled Garden, designed in 1756, is well worth a visit
and can be found close to the square. Also near the square stands
its fine church. There is an Open Air Swimming Pool at Helmsley,
run by the Faversham Memorial Trust. A statue of the second Lord
Feversham, stands in Helmsley's market Square. Visit Rievaulx
Abbey where you will find the spectacular and extensive remains
of this first Cistercian monastery in northern England, set in
the beautiful valley of the River Rye. Helmsley is 16 miles from
Malton, and 23 miles from York.
