It has a beautiful 18th century white weatherboarded three-story mill built on the banks of the River Colne and used by the famous the silk weaver Samuel Courtauld. Castle Hedingham near Halstead has a 110ft Norman Keep, one of the finest in the country. There is a magnificent banqueting hall, minstrel’s gallery and a fine Norman arch set in beautiful grounds with peaceful woodland and lakeside walks. Bull Hotel, Halstead, Halstead, CO9 1HU
	The Bull Hotel was a coaching inn for over 500 years. With its gently sloping floors and wealth of oak beams the hotel retains much of its historic character. The restaurant offers an extensive bar/brasserie menu and real ale is served in the welcoming bar. This is an ideal base for antique enthusiasts with many shops in the town and surrounding villages.
Station: BRAINTREE. 7miles. By car - leave the M11 at Jct 8 and follow the A120 east for Braintree. Follow the Braintree bypass, then at the roundabout continue ahead onto the A131 signed for Halstead. As you drive through Halstead on the A131, the road bends round to the right and the hotel is on the right, just before you cross the river. By train - the hotel is about 7 miles from Braintree station, 15 minutes by taxi.
