It has a beautiful 18th century white weatherboarded three-story mill built on the banks of the River Colne and used by the famous the silk weaver Samuel Courtauld. Castle Hedingham near Halstead has a 110ft Norman Keep, one of the finest in the country. There is a magnificent banqueting hall, minstrel’s gallery and a fine Norman arch set in beautiful grounds with peaceful woodland and lakeside walks.
