Gravesend is a town in north-west
Kent, on the south bank of the Thames, opposite Tilbury and the
docks. Gravesend has one of the oldest surviving markets in the
country, its earliest charter dating from 1268. Gravesend is
associated with General Gordon (1833-1885), who lived in the
