Glossop is known as "The Gateway to the Peak".
Glossop is surrounded on three sides by the Peak National Park
and is convenient stopping place for the many thousands of tourists
who visit the Park each year. The Victorian affluence is easily
recognised here, with the granite - built market arcade fronting
the market hall, and well laid out dignified squares. Glossop
has supermarkets & small specialist shops. There is an indoor
market, and an outdoor market on Friday and Saturday. Glossop
has a Leisure Centre & The Swimming Baths in Howard Park.
Glossop is 10 miles east of Manchester,
6 miles north of New Mills &
10 miles south of Holmfirth.
