Ferry services
Western Isles
Lewis is linked by ferry to the
mainland at Ullapool, with daily sailings (except Sunday).There
are ferry services from Harris (Tairbeart) and North Uist (Loch
nam Madabh) to Uig on Skye. Harris and North Uist are connected
by a ferry service between An T-ob (Leverburgh) and Otternish.
South Uist and Barra are served by ferry services from Oban, and
a ferry service operates between South Uist and Barra. South Uist
and North Uist are connected by causeways via Benbecula.
Shetland Islands
The main service is from Aberdeen
on the mainland to the island port of Lerwick. A service from
Stromness (Orkney) to Lerwick is also available.During the summer
months there are also services linking Shetland with Norway and
the Faroe Islana. Shetland Islands Council operates an inter-island
car ferry service.
Orkney Islands
The main service is from Scrabster
on the Caithness coast to the island port of Stromness. A service
from Aberdeen to Stromness provides a link to Shetland at Lerwick.
Inter-island car ferry services are also operated ( advance reservations
recommended).
