Welcome to our page of information, attractions
and places of interest around Galway. The Galway hotels
listed below are either in the town or we have given a rough
guide as to how far they are from Galway. The Republic of Ireland
is bound to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the east is the
Irish Sea which reconnects to the ocean via the southwest with
St. George's Channel and the Celtic Sea. The Republic of Ireland
has 26 counties, and five cities Dublin, Cork, Galway,
Limerick, and Waterford. The west-coast of Ireland features cliffs,
hills and low mountains. The centre of the country is flat with
large areas of bogland. We hope you enjoy your stay and find
your ideal accommodation from our list of Galway hotels.
Galway is the only city in the province
of Connacht in Ireland and is capital of County Galway. The city
is located on the west coast of Ireland. Probably the finest
medieval town house in Ireland, Lynch's Castle is in Shop Street;
it is now a branch of the Allied Irish Bank. The Church of Ireland
St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church is the largest remaining medieval
church in Ireland. It was founded in 1320 and enlarged in the
following two centuries. It is a pleasant building in the heart
of the old city. Its Roman Catholic counterpart, the Cathedral
of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, was consecrated
in 1965, and is a far larger, more imposing building constructed
from limestone. It has a Renaissance style, with its dome, pillars
and round arches.
