Ennis the county town and administrative centre of Clare, and is located between two streams of the River Fergus. Ennis is one of Ireland's most picturesque towns, with its history, famous quaint narrow streets and character buildings. Attractions Ennis Friary - Tel: 065/682 9100. Ennis Friary lies right in the historic centre of Ennis. It was established by the O'Briens, Kings of Thomond, in 1242, but most of the existing building dates from the fourteenth century. At that time, it had three hundred and fifty friars and over six hundred pupils and was considered the finest educational institution in Ireland for the clergy and upper classes. The site was originally on an island in the River Fergus around which the modern town of Ennis has grown. Location: In the centre of Ennis.
