Edale is the name given to the upper
reaches of the River Noe as it threads its way through a broad
valley of pastures and meadows. There are 5 ancient farming communities
here, the Booths, and Grindsbrook Booth lies at the heart of
the dale. The Nag's Head at Edale marks the start of the Pennine
Way, the most famous long - distance footpath in Britain. It
is also the access point to Kinder Scout, at 2088ft this boggy
peat plateau is the highest point in the National Park, and a
favourite with hikers despite the often dramatic change in weather
conditions. Besides its hotels, Edale has adventure and walking
centres, camping and caravan sites, a large Youth Hostel and
B&B accommodation. |
