Eckington is situated 7 miles north of Chesterfield, in north-east Derbyshire. In medieval times it was a small but important settlement, which was later engulfed by development when coal deposits were extensively worked throughout the area. It is a long sprawling village, with its manor houses and cottages built of the local Derbyshire stone and a main street just over a mile in length. There are many public houses, some dating back many years. The main occupations were always farming and mining, but since the closing of the local pits, several light industries have become established and a lot of farming land has been lost to building development. As you approach Mosborough village you will see the hotel situated on the right hand side at the top of the hill. From Sheffield centre, take the A6125 from park Square roundabout on to Duke Street, continue forwards on to City road and remain on the A6125 for approx. 10 minutes. You will reach Mosborough village, continue through the high street and up the hill that bears left. At the peak of the hill you will see the hotel located on the left.
