In the sixteenth century, Dukinfield was one of the larger towns that now make up Tameside. This continued into the 19th century, when Dukinfield was central to the agricultural industies for Manchester and Stockport, and iron ore was in demand. Coal also played an important part in the developement of the town, from as early as the seventeenth century and well into the eighteenth. Today, the town of Dukinfield is quite small. Station: . . Travelling by car: follow A57 signed Sheffield. Join M67 at main roundabout and come off at Junction 3. Remain in left lane and turn left at traffic lights. Continue to second set of traffic lights and turn right, then take left turn at next traffic lights onto Dukinfield Road. Hotel is 3/4 mile further on the left. (approx 2 miles from Dukinfield)
