Situated alongside the Ashton Canal at Portland Basin. The Ashton
Canal has undergone much improvement in recent years. It winds
its way through 18 locks from Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne.
After falling into disrepair it reopened in 1974 and is now a
popular circular boating route through city and countryside.
