The Downham Market hotels listed below
are either in the town or we have given a rough guide as to how
far they are from Downham Market. We hope you enjoy your stay
and find your ideal accommodation.
The part of East Anglia in which Downham
Market is situated is known as Hereward the Wake country. As
the name suggests it is a market town, with markets on Fridays
and Saturdays. St. Edmund Church stands in a commanding position
overlooking the town centre. It dates from Norman times but was
almost totally rebuilt in the 13th century. In the Market Square
you will find the Town Hall, built in 1887, and the Town Clock
(photo), a cast iron structure in a Gothic style, given to the
town in 1878. The War Memorial Playing Fields offer tennis courts,
squash courts, excellent pavilion and club room. Downham Market
has a heated swimming pool and a Sports Centre, both open to
the public. Downham Market is approximately 8 miles from Thetford and 8 miles from Kings
Lynn. Also see Downham Market
