The Peak District has a number of disused
railway trails, now used by walkers and cyclists alike.
With the closure of the Cromford and
High Peak Railway, the Ashbourne to Parsley Hay line and the
Monsal Dale Line, the opportunity arose for the National Park
Authority to convert these to scenic walkways with cycle hire
on the first two lines.
They are now known as the High Peak
Trail, the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail respectively.
Here, miles of traffic free countryside can be enjoyed, most
of it reasonably level for cycling.
