Crewe

Crewe town centreWelcome to our page of information, attractions and places of interest around Crewe. The Crewe hotels listed below are either in the town or we have given a rough guide as to how far they are from Crewe. From Crewe you are well placed to explore the lush, undulating pastureland of the wide Cheshire Plain, half-timbered little towns and villages and the thriving urban cities of Manchester and Liverpool. We hope you enjoy your stay and find your ideal accommodation from our list of Crewe hotels and/or the surrounding area.

Crewe, a large town in south Cheshire, did not come to prominence until the 1830s, when the Grand Junction Railway company chose it as the site for its locomotive works (known in the surrounding area simply as Crewe Works). GJR chief engineer Joseph Locke helped lay out the town. From a population of just 70 in 1831, the town grew to 40,000 in 1871. Many of the buildings which exist today were opened or constructed before 1925 including The Edwardian Lyceum theatre, which today still hosts many top shows. From 1946 to 2002 Crewe was the home of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor car production. Also see Crewe.
