It is famous for its Roman history, so a visit to the Corinium Museum (01285 655 611) is a must and is now open after a two year major refurbishment funded by Cotswold District Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Castle Street shops include a W.H. Smiths & there is a Woolworths in Cricklade Street. Cirencester's Charter Market is held in the Market Place on Mondays and Fridays each week, is one of the oldest charter markets in the country, and is very popular with locals and visitors.
