accessible by boat along the River Lee. Chingford is on the banks of the river Lee and William
Girling Reservoir which forms part of the Lea Valley chain of
reservoirs supplying water for treatment in the North London

Chingford
is about 11 miles from Charing Cross, Westminster, generally
accepted as the place for measuring the distance to and from
London. To the north and east of Chingford is Epping Forest and
the boundary with Essex. Chingford is built on the valley slope
of the east bank of the River Lea where the valley side rises
quickly to 250 feet, providing panoramic views across two large
reservoirs. An obelisk was built on Pole Hill in 1824 as a marker
for the former Greenwich Observatory. If
you are flying to/from London, Stanstead airport is about 25
miles from Chingford and London city airport is about 12 miles
from Chingford. Your nearest mainline rail link to Chingford
is Chingford station.
