The north west region covers
Lancashire to the north and Cheshire to the south, with the estuaries
of the rivers Dee and Mersey cutting deeply into the coastline
in the west. The attractive area known as the Wirral sits in
between.
The beautiful city of Chester
attracts visitors - you can walk the two mile circuit of the
city walls built around 70 AD to protect the Roman fort of Deva.
8 miles north of Chester on the Shropshire
Union Canal is the superb Boat Museum at Ellesmere Port.
The cities of Liverpool
and Manchester dominate the northern landscape, each with their
own identities and worth exploring. From Liverpool, visitors
can take the 4 hour ferry to the Isle of Man, situated in the
Irish Sea. This small island, just 30 miles long by 10 miles
wide is home to the annual TT races, adding 45,000 to the island's
small population.
