Within the northwest
of England lie some of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Cheshire is a county of rolling green countryside, half-timbered
manor houses, pretty villages on the fertile Cheshire
Plain and the splendid city of Chester. To the north is Lancashire
with its cotton-mill towns and industrial heritage. Here also
are the thriving cities of Liverpool and Manchester, Liverpool
on the Mersey estuary with its impressive redevelopment of the
Albert Dock, and the Victorian splendour of the streets of Manchester
with its top-class museums and thriving cafe and club scene.
The M6 motorway slices through a landscape criss-crossed by canals,
the Shropshire Union, the Trent & Mersey, the Bridgewater
and the Manchester Ship Canal. |
