Châteauvillain is a town in
the Haute-Marne department of Champagne-Ardenne. The town is
located 20 km east of Chaumont, in the centre of the triangle
formed by the cities of Châtillon-sur-Seine, Bar-sur-Aube
and Chaumont. It is close to the border with the Cote d'Or region
in Burgundy. A place of interest in Châteauvillain is the
Deer Park, founded in 1655 by lord François-Marie who
built a six-mile long stone wall to enclose the park. Planted
with magnificent trees of different species, this area is home
to100 deer living in harmony with nature and man. |

The Champagne region is of course
synonymous with the world famous sparkling wine, and the triangle
linking Epernay, Reims and Chalons-sur-Champagne is a magnet
for wine lovers. The sign-posted "route touristique de champagne"
wends its way through vineyards towards the plains in the south,
an area of oak forests, water meadows and streams. The area has
some striking churches, in particular the majestic Gothic Reims
cathedral. The Ardennes lies on the border between France and
Belguim and is a land of dramatic valleys, deciduous forests
and hills, cut through by the River Meuse. |
