the old Chapel en le Frith survive around the church which was
dedicated to St Thomas Becket. The modern town is a busy, pleasant
place to stroll around the cobbled market square. Chapel-en-le-Frith
is strategically placed for easy access to most of the Peak National
Park. Chapel en le Frith expanded in the 19th century with the
coming of the Midland Railway in the 1870s, but the Midland line
from Manchester to London has now closed and only the south station
(on the Buxton-Manchester line) survives. There are ongoing efforts
to reopen the line between Buxton &
Matlock. The line from Matlock to
Derby still exists.Chapel
en le Frith is 8 miles south of Glossop,
3 miles east of Whaley Bridge
and 3 miles north of Buxton. If you

 Torrs Millennium Walkway, New Mills, Derbyshire.
The walkway provides a route through the previously impassable
gritstone gorge at Torrs, New Mills. The gorge is an area of
exceptional natural beauty and unique industrial archaeological
heritage. An elevated 160m long cantilevered walkway provides
the important ‘missing link’ for the Mid Shires Way,
