Set within over 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century, it is a magnificent Tudor–Jacobean mansion. It has one of the largest collections of Chippendale furniture in the country. About 7 miles northwest of Castleford.
	Leeds City Art Gallery, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AA Tel. 0113 247 8248. The gallery comprises one of the best collections of British Art outside London, including works by Turner, Cotman, Cozens and Girtin. Through the support of the Henry Moore Foundation, the Gallery has bought many important sculptures and can boast a modern sculpture collection second only to that of the Tate. About 8 miles northwest of Castleford.

	Pontefract Castle, Castle Chain, Pontefract WF8 1QH Tel: 01977 723440 A notorious 12th century stone motte and bailey fortress standing high on a ridge, with a great ditch, barbican and two stone walled outer baileys. The site is owned by Wakefield Museums & Arts Department. About 3 miles south of Castleford.
