Welcome to our page of accommodation in Carlisle!
Located in the very north of England, Carlisle is the
county town of Cumbria and its largest city, and just a few miles
from the Scottish border. The Romans established a settlement
here - primarily to serve the forts on Hadrian's Wall. Carlisle
Castle is a great medieval fortress that has watched over the
City of Carlisle for over nine centuries and is home to the Border
Regiment Museum. Carlisle became a great 19th century railway
city because of its strategic position, with 7 independent railway
companies sharing the use of Carlisle Citadel Station and the
extensive goods yards. The Station is an impressive building,
built in 1847 by Sir William Tite. Carlisle is the northern end
of the famous 72 mile Settle-Carlisle Railway. Steam trains may
often been seen at Carlisle station on special charter trips. |
