Hornsea
Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, situated only
three-quarters of a mile from the North Sea. It covers 467 acres,
compared with Semerwater’s 80, and is two miles long, three-quarters
of a mile wide at its broadest part, and at the most 11 or 12
feet deep. The mere owes its origin to the glacial deposits that
formed Holderness, after the last Ice age. This shallow nutrient-rich
lake attracts a variety of wintering waterfowl and passage migrants. About 10 miles

Flamborough

Flamborough Head is a rocky chalk headland, famous for its chalk
cliffs, up to 130 metres in height, which are home to one of
the largest sites of nesting sea birds in England and boasting
a rare colony of gannets. The cliff top walk is a birdspotter's
paradise with oyster catchers, gulls, eider ducks, and cormorants.
As well as its distinctive white cliffs, there are coves, sea
caves and stacks along the coastline. About 3 miles east of Bridlington. |

Bridlington lies in Yorkshire, the largest of all
England's counties. In the northwest of the county lies the Yorkshire
Dales National Park, a lovely patchwork of limestone hills, gentle
valleys and the high peaks of Whernside, Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough.
The classical Yorkshire Dales spread to the north from the market
and spa towns of Settle, Skipton, Ilkley and Harrogate in North
Yorkshire, with most of the larger southern dales such as Ribblesdale,
Malhamdale and Airedale, Wharfedale and Nidderdale running roughly
parallel from north to south, and the more northerly dales including
Wensleydale, Swaledale and Teesdale running generally from west
to east. The North York Moors is the county's other national
park, with bleak upland moors and a magnificent rugged coastline.
To the southeast of the region lie the Yorkshire Wolds, formed
from chalk hills that arc from the Humber estuary west of Kingston
upon Hull up to the North Sea coast between Bridlington and Scarborough.
