edge of Bodmin Moor, equidistant from the north and south Cornish
coasts. It was an important ecclesiastical centre, its church
of St Petroc built in the 15th century is the largest in Cornwall.

Clock, the Assize Hall, Shire House and Bodmin Gaol. The Gilbert
Memorial is a prominent landmark occupying a commanding position
on Bodmin Beacon, an area of moorland near the centre of the
