Bembridge on the Isle of Wight is
a large village situated on the eastern point of the Island.
It covers approximately a square mile and has on its northern
boundary a large, natural harbour, much used in the summer months.
Many years ago, the village consisted of five hamlets joined
by large farms. Bembridge Windmill was built in 1700 from Island
stone, and was used to produce flour and animal feed at around
6000 kilos per day. The mill is open to the public from April
to October having been taken over by the National Trust in the
late 1950s, and restored to full working order. Also see Bembridge & Bembridge
