During the summer months Barmouth is one of the busiest seaside towns in Snowdonia. It has a popular beach with soft sand and a long promenade walk. The main attraction in Barmouth is the harbour where sea fishing trips are available. Barmouth offers speciality shopping. Parking can be difficult at peak times. Barmouth's old town has steep steps and slate-roofed cottages on the side of a mountain. The town is situated on the west coast of North Wales, between mountains and sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach is a beautiful location. Attractions RNLI Boathouse, The Promenade, Barmouth, Gwynedd LL42 1NF. The Visitor Centre contains a pictorial history of Barmouth Lifeboat Station plus some artefacts pertaining to the lifeboats. There are also some pictures of Barmouth in Victorian times. A viewing gallery for Barmouth's Mersey class lifeboat has been installed. The Visitor Centre also houses the RNLI souvenir and gift shop. Location: In the centre of Barmouth.

Attractions Harlech Castle, Harlech Tel: 01766 780552. Harlech Castle is built on a rocky outcrop, gazing out over the land and sea, keeping a watchful eye over Snowdonia. The English monarch Edward1 built it in the late 13th century to fulfil this very role. A long siege here during the Wars of the Roses inspired the stirring song "Men of Harlech". About 10 miles north of Barmouth.

Attractions Fairbourne & Barmouth Steam Railway, Beach Road, Fairbourne, Gwynedd LL38 2EX. Tel: 01341 250362. The Fairbourne and Barmouth Railway extends two and a half miles between Fairbourne Village and Penrhyn Point where it connects with a ferry which takes passengers across the Afon Mawddach to Barmouth. Four Steam Engines operate passenger services along the 12 ¼ inch Gauge track. www.fairbournerailway.com. Location: On the outskirts of Barmouth.

Attractions Cymmer Abbey, near Dolgellau. Cymmer Abbey was founded in 1198. The buildings were never completed and of the church, only the nave was ever built. The situation is typically Cistercian, in a remote valley with fast-flowing streams. Today the site is in the care of the Welsh Historic Monuments. Remains of the church and of the cloister layout can be viewed by the public. About 9 miles northeast of Barmouth.
