Crathes Castle, Garden & Estate, Banchory,

16th-century tower house standing on an estate granted to the
Burnett family in 1323 by King Robert the Bruce. It has a profusion
of turrets, gargoyles and towers, and is surrounded by superb
gardens including ancient sculpted yew trees. About 3 miles east of Banchory. |

The
Peel Ring of Lumphanan is all that remains of a 12th c. motte
and bailey castle. Lumphanan was held by the Durwards in the
13th c. and was visited by Edward I in 1296. Lumphanan was occupied
as late as 1782. About 10 miles northwest of Banchory. |

in the heart of the city, with its impressive architecture, fine
collections and excellent special exhibitions, it attracts some
300,000 visitors a year. There is a most impressive collection
of 20th century British art with work by Stanley Spencer, Ben
Nicholson and Francis Bacon, and works by French Impressionists
and Post Impressionists Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Bonnard, Toulouse-Lautrec

The exhibitions bring the North Sea experience to life using
models, real equipment and computer displays. Visitors can discover
what it is like to live and work on a huge oil platform in the
middle of the North Sea. There are models of fast clipper ships,
fishing displays and outstanding views of the harbour. About 12 miles
