The two important geographical features
in this region give it its name, the river Rhone and the Alps.
Within the Rhone-Alpes lie the departments of Loire, Rhone, Ain,
Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isere, Drome and Ardeche. Lyon is the region's
largest city with its great museums and fine Renaissance buildings.
To the north are the famous Beaujolais vineyards, to the south
chateaux and ancient towns dot the landscape, to the west the
Ardeche offers rugged wilderness, canoeing and climbing while
the Alps are a favourite destination for sports enthusiasts. |
