	The historic Royal Burgh of Annan is a small border town set on the River Annan, 16 miles from Carlisle or Dumfries and only 8 miles from Gretna Green. It lies at the start of the lovely Solway Coast Trail - a drive along quiet roads to a wealth of castles and abbeys. It stretches west to east from Portpatrick, over the Mull of Galloway, to the North Sea cliffs at Cocksburnspath. It passes through some of Scotland's most beautiful and varied scenery. The Southern Upland Way passes close to Annan.
