	Warkworth Castle was built in the 12th century then rebuilt, and the gatehouse was added in the 13th century. The three storey keep was built during the late 14th century. It includes a great hall, chapel, kitchens, store rooms and various chambers. Although now in ruin it is open to the public (charges apply). The Castle is located in Warkworth village centre, rising steeply above the River Coquet. There is a car park. Tel: 01665 711423. About 3 miles south of Alnmouth.

	During the summer there are regular boat trips from Amble harbour, just down the coast, to the RSPB bird sanctuary at Coquet Island. Coquet Island is a small island close to the Northumberland coast. In 1841 lighthouse was built on the island. About 5 miles south of Alnmouth.

	Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, Alnwick, Northumberland, Telephone: 01665 576231. Dramatic castle ruins which dominate a lonely stretch of Northumberland's coastline with splendid clifftop views, about 7 miles north of Alnmouth. Dunstanburgh Castle is managed by English Heritage.
