Alexandria is the largest town in
the Vale of Leven, located at the southern end of Loch Lomand.
It has changed over the past 20 years, many of the town centre
buildings have been demolished, making way for new housing, shops,
and a new traffic system. Also many of the surrounding small
villages have merged with Alexandria - however they have retained

Balloch Castle Country Park lies within the 170 square miles
of Loch Lomond Regional Park. The visitor centre is in Balloch
Castle itself, but this is a modern version, built in 1808. The
original castle was built in 1238 by the Earls of Lennox (before
they built a more secure stronghold on Inchmurrin Island on the
loch). There is now only a mound and a depression that was the
moat, surviving from the original castle. About 4 miles north of Alexandria.
