Self catering accommodation in Battle |
|
Battle is a few miles north of Hastings on the eastern
edge of Sussex just off the A21. Battle was founded on the site
of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 (the battle was fought here,
not at Hastings). The town built up around Battle Abbey which
was constructed between 1070-1094 by William the Conqueror to
atone the terrible loss of life at the Battle of Hastings. The
abbey dominates the town at the lower end of the High Street.
In the 17th century, Battle was the centre for the gunpowder
industry, located in the surrounding villages. Also see Battle
& Battle attractions.
