 Aberlour is set amidst the beautiful Speyside landscape,
where keen-eyed birdwatchers can, if they are lucky, spot the
golden eagle patrolling the skies above the Cairngorms. A village
in central Moray, Aberlour is situated 15 miles south of Elgin
on the right bank of the River Spey where it is joined by the
Burn of Aberlour, or Lour Burn. Situated at the junction of the
rivers Lour and Spey, you can find the Aberlour distillery, surrounded
by glorious scenery. Pure spring water for making the whisky
is drawn from the Lour. Aberlour Distillery (01340 881249). "The
Aberlour Distillery Experience" enables you to see the whisky-making
process at first hand and to sample a selection of the finished

centre offers the visitor the chance to savour the sights, sounds
and smells of the busy workshops and have a go at building our
'demonstration' cask. You can watch our skilled coopers and apprentices
at work. The visitor centre is equipped to cater for wheelchair

121. Balvenie is a castle of enclosure, with a massive 13th century
curtain wall, built in a strategically significant position in
the Glen. It was first owned by the powerful Comyn Earls of
Buchan, then added to in the 15th and 16th centuries. The property
is managed by Historic Scotland. About 5 miles east of Aberlour. |
